I am a bookworm. I've always been. I could get lost in stories and pictures for hours. For me, the written word is incredibly important and books are very important to me. There's nothing like a good travel story on the beach or a thriller in winter with wool socks and hot chocolate. I collect books like other shoes, stamps, or egg figures. There are hardly any knickknacks in my apartment, except maybe a few souvenirs from my travels. That is why books, newspapers and magazines stand and lie everywhere.
That's why I will never get an eBook reader in my house. I'd rather drag 2kg more luggage through world history.
Today I would like to introduce you to a book that does not necessarily fit in your hand luggage, but which definitely awakens your wanderlust after the first few pages.
The Outsiders - New Outdoor Creativity.
It is a book about being creative, being adventurous and wanderlust. Wanderlust for the vastness and solitude of nature, for nights under the stars and sunrises on the lake. Even the foreword makes you want to get your butt off the sofa, pack your backpack and just leave the comfort zone. Because, let's face it, life and travel in nature have little to do with classic comfort and luxury. Luckily.
"Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave the trail. "
Because for me it is exactly what makes my life. I would rather spend my trips somewhere outside of civilization than in any city. With the cold in my face when snowboarding. Or with the salt water on my skin while trying to surf. With the wind in my hair during the aimless road trips. Unfortunately, such adventures are far too rare at the moment. For the time in between, I like to leaf through such illustrated books and let the photos inspire me.
The book addresses a total of six different subject areas. And for every topic there are suitable articles, portraits, product and label presentations, illustrations and wonderful photographs with a brief description of the photographers.
I especially liked the portraits and the landscape shots. Among them are the twins Paul and Hansen Hoepner , who cycled from Berlin to Shanghai on their bikes. Or the Harteau family with their road trip adventure through America. Or two of my favorite photographers, Chris Burkard and Kilian Schönberger . My favorite part? Of course the On The Road section!
The book could also be seen as a kind of sales catalog. The creative part of the outdoor industry has put a lot of effort into it and contributed some more or less useful, but definitely stylish products. Sometimes it is a bit too many product presentations for me, but the interesting stories behind the labels and the whole presentation definitely make up for it.
